Mid-Atlantic bloom time: February - March
Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: March - April

American Elm was decimated by the outbreak of "Dutch" elm disease fungi (Ophiostoma ulmi) in the middle of the 20th century. The disease was first reported in 1928 in a shipment of logs from The Netherlands (hence its name), and reached its peak in the 1970s.
