Family: Ranunculaceae (Buttercup family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: May - July

Tassel-rue is a perennial that can grow to 1.5 meters tall. Its leaves are palmately many-lobed and serrated. Its flowers don't have petals, but instead have white to greenish sepals about 4 mm long. Each flower has long (up to 1 cm) white stamens and short yellow-green pistils at the center, giving the flower an overall white appearance with a pale yellow-green center.

Tassel-rue has a disjunct distribution, being native to both North America and Japan. Its genus is named for the botanist Ernst Rudolf von Trautvetter.
