Rose Twisted-stalk has a zigzag-shaped stem, hence the common name "twisted-stalk". Superficially, it looks like a variation of Solomon's Seal, but the zigzag shape easily distinguishes it from Solomon's Seal species. Both the stem and leaves usually have fine hairs.
It typically grows in high elevation forests, especially Red Spruce forests and northern hardwood forests, including seepages swamps and boulder fields with periodic seepage.
