Family: Viburnaceae [ formerly Adoxaceae ] (Moschatel family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: late April - early June
Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: late June - August

Red Elderberry's leaves have 5–7 leaflets, each irregularly serrated. Its flowers are white to yellowish and ill-scented. Its fruits are bright red drupes containin 3–5 seeds.

Red Elderberry's stems, roots and foliage are poisonous, and the fruit can be toxic or cause nausea if eaten raw.
