Mid-Atlantic bloom time: May - June
Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: October - November

As its name implies, the Southern Magnolia is native to the more southern portion of the mid-Atlantic region. Its large creamy-white flowers can be up to 25 cm wide or more, with strange looking parts inside. The mature seeds are red and somewhat sticky, all held on a 6-10 cm long cone.
