Family: Lamiaceae

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: August - October

Dittany's flowers are small, typically less than an inch long, with the petals fused into a tube and the pistle and stamens protruding out beyond the petals.

The fresh or dried leaves of Dittany can purportedly be used to make a pleasant mint-like herbal tea. Supposedly the tea can be used to treat headaches, colds, and fevers. An essential oil called "Oil of Dittany" can be extracted to purportedly use as an antiseptic.
