Family: Asteraceae (Aster / Sunflower family)
Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - June
Cornflower, a popular garden plant also known as Bachelor's-buttons, is an annual that is native to temperate Europe, but has been introduced as an ornamental plant in many other parts of the world and subsequently naturalized. It gets its common name «cornflower» because it often grew as a weed in fields of grain (called «corn» in Europe).
