Baorangia bicolor

Two-colored Bolete

Family: Boletaceae

Lots of confusion has swirled around naming this beautiful mushroom. Originally a species in Europe was named Boletus bicolor by Giuseppe Raddi, then promptly lost to science. Then another specimen was found in New York by Charles Peck and given the same name (oops!). Peck's specimen's name has been changed to Baorangia bicolor to differentiate it from its European cousin.

When the inner pore surface is bruised, it changes to a deep blue/indigo coloring.
