Family: Plagiochilaceae
Plagiochila porelloides is a large leafy liverwort. Each 1.5 cm stem of the gametophyte has two rows of leaves, with each leaf about 1.5 mm. It likes to grow on damp rocks or in damp sand or silt.
According to the Digitial Atlas of Virginia Flora,
"... the name Plagiochila asplenioides has been misapplied everywhere except in the Pacific Northwest; all other occurrences are referable to P. porelloides."The species name asplenioides referred to its resemblance to spleenwort ferns (genus Asplenium).
